WW1 Awareness: Updated warning on gas masks and WW1 Steel helmets

Many schools may currently be focusing on WW1 awareness in history lessons. Please be aware we have received warnings, both via the TUC and one of our national officials, on the dangers of handling WW1 historic artifacts. In particular, there is an asbestos risk with WW1 gas masks.

Updated warning on gas masks and WW1 Steel helmets

No gas masks of any kind should be worn or handled unless clearly certified as safe to do so.

WW1 steel helmets can also contain chrysotile (white asbestos) in the inner padding. They should not be worn or handled unless clearly certified as safe to do so.
